KOLKATA: Father of Naxalite movement Charu Majumdar’s son Abhijit on Tuesday called BJP president Amit Shah’s decision to announce BJP’s expansion plan from Naxalbari a “hoax”, part of a “central design” that would not reap any benefits.
He pointed out that in 2014, Darjeeling BJP MP S S Ahluwalia adopted the Hatighisa gram panchayat—which housed Naxalite leader Kanu Sanyal’s home—under the Sansad Adarash Gram Yojana that sought to build an ideal village.
“If I believe in Shah’s logic that Narendra Modi’s schemes were working, why hasn’t Hatighisa seen any improvement?” he said.
Asked if it was ironical that Shah was visiting Naxalbari in 50th year of the peasant uprise, Abhijit said, “Shah can always come to Naxalbari. But let’s not forget he is the prime accused in the Gujarat genocide and had done some communal engineering in Muzaffarnagar. Shah knows it’s only the radical Left that can break the corporate-communal nexus.” Abhijit, who teaches at a Siliguri college, said Mamata Banerjee came to power using the Left rhetoric. “She spoke about land grab. BJP can’t use the Left rhetoric.”
About the perception that the movement had distanced itself from the youth and tribals, he said: “Naxalbari, as a place, has changed under a design of the state. The Left Front had tried to wipe out our movement. Yet, horizons are opening up among students of Jadavpur University, JNU and Hyderabad University,” he said.
