GURUGRAM: The expansion of the city’s metro corridor is likely to gain pace on Wednesday as the Haryana government is expected to give its approval for a proposed route linking Palam Vihar with Dwarka Sector 21 in Delhi. At present, Gurugram has only one metro link with the capital — the Yellow Line of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation that ends at Huda City Centre.

The new corridor will be discussed at a meeting to be convened by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar at the PWD guest house in the city.
In Gurugram , the route will actually start from Rezang La Chowk.
It was in May 2019 that the metro link was first proposed. In July that year, the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) engaged RITES for a techno-feasibility study and the DPR. RITES submitted its report on April 11 this year. On Wednesday, it would be taken up for discussion.
“RITES will present its DPR before the CM. The project, if approved, will be implemented jointly by HMRTC and DMRC,” a senior government official said. Although the two metro corporations will develop the corridor together, their exact roles will be decided once the project is approved, the official clarified.
The metro route will be 8.4km long, of which 4.9km (Rezang La Chowk to Sector 111) will be in Gurugram , while the remaining 3.5km (Sector 111 to Dwarka Sector 21) will fall in Delhi. The corridor will have seven stations — four in Gurugram and three in Delhi.

The proposed stations are Rezang La Chowk, Chauma, Sector 110A, Sector 111, Dwarka Sector 28, the India International Convention & Expo Centre (IICC) in Dwarka Sector 25 and Dwarka Sector 21. The route will have two interchange stations. While Rezang La Chowk will have an interchange with the proposed Gurugram metro corridor (Huda City Centre to Cyber City), Dwarka Sector 21, which will be separate from the existing DMRC station, will have an interchange with the Blue Line as well as the Airport Express corridor.
The project is expected to cost Rs 2,281 crore. Both the Centre and the state government will fund the corridor, though the share hasn’t been decided yet. After the project is approved, land acquisition and construction work are expected to start by 2023. The corridor is likely to be operational by 2027.
Around two hectares will be needed to set up a metro depot at Sector 101. The depot will be adjacent to that of the Gurugram metro corridor, which will be spread across 5.5 hectares.
Apart from this, land will also be required for route alignment, station buildings, platforms, entry/exit structures, traffic integration facilities, radio towers and so on.
According to the DPR, a total of 60,539sqm of land will be required for the project, of which 1,700sqm will come from the Centre and 35,716sqm by the state. The remaining 23,123sqm will be acquired from private individuals.
Operation and maintenance of the corridor is expected to cost around Rs 65.6 crore in 2027, which is likely to increase to Rs 88.2 crore in 2031. Due to an expected increase in footfall, the route will require an additional investment of Rs 56.2 crore in 2031 and another Rs 239.9 crore in 2041, the RITES report has said.
