AHMEDABAD: The Tata Motors plant in
Sanand has so far manufactured 4.97 lakh cars, of that 2.6 lakh were
Nano variant. The government said that the plant has begun manufacturing other models.
Minister of state for industries Jagdish
Panchal was replying to a question by
Kanti Parmar, the Congress MLA from Anand. Panchal said the government had signed an agreement with the Tata Motors for manufacturing of cars.
The company has been manufacturing other models in Sanand as these models are in demand.
Panchal further said that the government had given a loan at 0.1% simple interest for 20 years to The Tatas for setting up of its plant in Sanand. The plant has so far generated 7,000 jobs in the area and at the plant.
Deputy leader of opposition
Shailesh Parmar said that the agreement was for Nano cars but the company has now started manufacturing other models which is a breach of the condition. He demanded an action against the company. Panchal said that as per the condition, if the company does not manufacture at the plant it would not get the loan. “Since there is no demand for Nano cars, the company has begun manufacturing other models,” he said.
Panchal said that with the Tatas coming to Sanand, several other ancillary industries have come up in the state. Apart from Maruti, Ford, Honda Motors, MG Motors and MRF tyres have come to the state. He said that because of the Tatas, directly or indirectly, 26,000 employments have been created in the state.
