Mahindra & Mahindra has revealed that it has received an order to deliver 1,850 units of the Scorpio Classic to the Indian Army. While Mahindra's official tweet mentions that the orders have been received for the Scorpio Classic, the image showcases the older version of the Scorpio. In January this year, the carmaker had received a similar order for 1,470 units of the Scorpio Classic, and it seems like the Indian Army is now looking for further reinforcements.
The pre-facelift Scorpio that has been showcased in the image features a matte camo green paint scheme similar to what we've also seen on Tata Safari Storme GS800, also used by the Indian Army. Furthermore, the SUV features the older Mahindra emblem and older grille, along with alloys that were also seen on the previous iteration of the mid-size SUV.
The Mahindra Scorpio Classic that is available for civilians is offered with a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, putting out 132 PS of maximum power and 300 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, sending power to the rear wheels only. While Mahindra hasn't revealed any specifications of the model that will be supplied to the armed forces, we believe that it could possibly be equipped with the 140 PS/320 Nm state of tune, along with a 4x4 drivetrain.

Mahindra had recently announced that the Scorpio nameplate had achieved a nine lakh production milestone. The company now offers the SUV in India in two different guises, namely Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic. The former is a more modern, feature-loaded SUV, while the latter carries over its no-nonsense appeal and serves as a workhorse.
Apart from the Mahindra Scorpio Classic, which other SUV(s) do you think would be the right fit to serve the armed forces? Let us know in the comments down below.
