An evening in Langkawi : The Eagle Square

After more than 5 years, I made another trip to the Eagle Square in Kuah, Langkawi, Malaysia.

The Eagle Square is the most famous landmark in Langkawi. Situated in Kuah, the ‘capital’ of the legendry Langkawi Island. The main attraction is the huge well crafted statue of an eagle, the symbol of Langkawi. The location is very strategic, almost at the ‘gateway’ to the Island via ferry terminal.

Also known as Dataran Lang ( Lang or helang means Eagle in Malay) it is believed that, the name of the island was after the bird (lang) and ‘kawi’ means ‘place’ as told by some locals.

The square is one of Langkawi’s best known manmade attractions, a large sculpture of an eagle poised to take flight. A sight that greets visitors to the island via ferry, the 12 meter-tall statue is one of the island’s most instantly recognizable monuments.

We arrived at the square quite late in the evening but inntme to watch the sun set. Many tourist still busy taking photos and mingling around the sea front.

We left Dataran Lang for our dinner at Cenang Beach, not far from Langkawi airport and our accomodation in Langkawi Lagoon Resorts’ Sea Villa.

This was where we stayed for two nights.

I took these photos before we left for the airport.
I wished I had more time to spend there. next time, perhaps.
