I hope you are well by the infinite mercy of God, I am well too. Today I will share with you the zamindar house associated with the memory of world poet Rabindranath Tagore.
A brief history of Kuthibari
Rabindra Kuthibari is located in Shilaidaha village of Kumarkhali police station in Kushtia district. It is a village on the banks of river Padma.The house is located two kilometers away from the river Padma. The river was accessible to almost all the districts. The village of Shilaidaha was formerly known as Khorshedpur. Before the Jorasanko Tagore family bought the village in the 1950, there was an indigo factory here.In 1808, Dwarkanath Tagore, the grandfather of Rabindranath Tagore, became the owner of the zamindari in the area from Ramlochan Tagore. Rabindranath Tagore first came to this village in November 189 to look after the zamindari.
- When you enter Rabindra Kuthibari you will see these scenes with two big palm trees. And there is a wall around. It will cost 20bdt per person to enter here. Let me tell you, Rabindra Kuthibari is open for inspection only and is closed two days a week.
- Here you can see some scenes in front of Rabindra Kuthibari. Different types of flower gardens have been planted. Here you will see different species of flowering plants. The beautification work has been done in front of the house through flower trees.
- In the main building you will see various works of nineteenth century. It is a building which is about one hundred and fifty years old. From this building they looked after all the zamindari. Rabindranath Tagore spent his childhood and adolescence here because his zamindari was here. The building is still open to the public. I will discuss with you in the next building the things that are associated with the memory of Rabindranath.
Since Rabindranath Tagore and his grandfather used to look after their zamindari here as there are many relics of them here. When Rabindranath Tagore stayed in this house, he wrote stories, novels, short poems etc. from this house. Before and after independence, this place was considered as one of the important places in Bangladesh.
