An Assortment of Famous Writers, Essayists, and so forth.

William Shakespeare

Pictured above is a person who can be considered one of the “founding fathers” of English literature, William Shakespeare.  A playwright who set the many of the foundations many other famous writers were able to build upon afterwards.

As noted before,  it’s a good thing for an aspiring writer to stop and take a look at the works of those who came before.   Thus, for the purposes of this post, we’ll be taking a glance at some of of the more influential people in literary history, that I find particularly fascinating.

Mark Twain

For those who read one of my previous posts, this should hardly come as a surprise to anyone.   Pictured to the right is Mark Twain,  a man who not only an excellent American author and humorist, but a social critic and thinker beyond his time.

Thomas_Stearns_Eliot_by_Lady_Ottoline_Morrell_(1934)T.S Elliot,  essayist, publisher, playwright, social critic, and modernist.  Responsible for some of the best-known poems in English literature such as the The Waste Land, The Hollow Men, Ash Wednesday, and of course The Love Song of J.Alread Prufrock,   he is a man who produced many wonderful works.  As an aspiring poet on the side, I do count him among one of the more respectable literary individuals.

Alexandre_Dumas_NadarGood old Alexandre Dumas.  While technically not an English writer,  the days I spent as a boy reading and rereading The Three Musketeers and the Man in the Iron Mask alone are enough for me to put him here.    The adventures of D’artagnan, Athos, Porthos, and Aramis remain fresh in my mind to this very day.
