Kaligram Rathindranath Institution of Patisar, Naogaon

Kaligram Rathindranath Institution is an educational institution located in Kaligram Union of Atrai Upazila of Naogaon District, Bangladesh. This is a high school. Rabindranath Tagore himself built the educational institution. He built the high school with the money he received from the Nobel Prize 

The Tagore family of Jorasanko had three zamindars in Bangladesh. They are Shilaidha in Kushtia district, Shahajadpur in Sirajganj district, and Kaligram in Naogaon district. Rabindranath Tagore got the responsibility of zamindar of Kaligram by inheritance.

Rabindranath Tagore came to Kaligram on June 13, 1891, to look after the zamindari. He came here for the last time on July 27, 1937. Rabindranath Tagore came many times to the village of Ranjan in Kaligram union in Atrai to conduct the zamindari work.

Kaligram Rathindranath Institution was established in 1937. The high school is named after Rathindranath, son of Rabindranath Tagore. Rabindranath Tagore established the high school with Nobel Prize money.

After the death of Rabindranath Tagore, his son Rathindranath inherited the zamindari. He came to Kaligram around 1945 with his wife Pratima Devi. He was attracted to the institution built in his name. He was in regular contact with the teachers and students at that time.

Kaligram Rathindranath Institution was built of mud at that time. The memory of Rabindranath Tagore is embedded in this high school. Rabindranath’s blessings, letters, his last speech to the people, and various books given by him are collected in this institution. Many memorabilia of Rabindranath including letters of Rabindranath Tagore’s son Rathindranath Tagore, Rabindranath’s daughter-in-law Pratima Devi are collected in this institution

On the occasion of the birth and death anniversaries of Rabindranath Tagore, various programs are organized at Kaligram Rathindranath Institution. Education programs are ongoing in mud houses at the Rabindranath memorial.

However, due to the negligence of the authorities, a mud house enshrined in the Rabindranath memorial has been demolished. Many relics of Rabindranath are on the verge of destruction due to a lack of preservation by proper authorities

Patisar a village in Naogaon district and is noted for being associated with rabindranath tagore as a zamindar. It is situated on the banks of the Nagor, 12 kilometres south-east of the Atrai railway station and 26 kilometres from the district town. The kachari of the Tagore family's zamindari in Kaligram Pargana was located at Patisar. dwarkanath tagore, the grandfather of Rabindranath Tagore, purchased this zamindari in 1830. Rabindranath Tagore first came to Patisar in January 1891. The architectural design of the two-storied Kuthibari of Patisar is similar to that of Shilaidaha-Shahjadpur. The buildings, adjacent to the main mansion, are now reduced to debris. A pond, named Rabindrasarobar, is now a silted up marsh. During his stay at Patisar, Tagore composed many of his creative works. Rabindranath Tagore established in the village a primary school, a High English school called Rathindranath High School, a charitable dispensary, and Patisar Krishi Bank (1905). He established at Patisar a co-operative society for the development of agriculture, handloom, and pottery. In 1921, when the zamindari was divided, Patisar went to Rabindranath's share. When the poet was awarded the Nobel Prize, the tenants of Patisar felicitated him with an address of honour (1913). On the request of his tenants, Tagore visited Patisar in 1937 for the last time on the occasion of punya. Patisar is now a tourist spot. On the occasions of Tagore's birth and death anniversaries, discussion meetings and cultural functions are held at Patisar.
