Top Christmas Island experiences
Red crab migration
Christmas Island's mass red crab migration is among the most incredible natural processes on Earth. Every year, millions of these large crabs emerge from the rainforest and make their way to the ocean to breed, swarming across roads, streams, rocks and beaches.
Scuba diving
Christmas Island is one of Australia's best scuba destinations, with more than 60 different dive sites to choose from. The island boasts excellent visibility, a fringing reef and some of the biggest drop-offs in the world.
Birdwatching
An internationally renowned birding destination, Christmas Island attracts 80,000 nesting seabirds every year, including the world's rarest booby and frigatebird.
Flying Fish Cove
The island's most popular beach is perfect for snorkelling and sunset picnics.
Dolly Beach
A boardwalk through dense rainforest leads to a quiet beach with rock pools, coconut palms and a freshwater stream.
Turtle watching
Christmas Island is a prime turtle-watching location, with two endangered species of sea turtle calling it home. Nesting occurs all year round and you will often see new hatchlings.
