The Country

Margarita is the largest island of Nueva Esparta province and one of the most important of the Caribbean, a free port with its own administration and relatively independent from mainland Venezuela. The Island emerges from the warm waters of the Caribbean sea, located on the north eastern coastline of Venezuela in a completely hurricane free area. Its surface is 1150 Km2 with 315 km of beaches, an average year round temperature of 29 °C and 350 days of tropical sunshine. Nature offers a great variety of scenary like tropical rain forests, semiarid areas, mountains, planes and fantastic beaches.

Life

LIFE ON THE ISLAND: The islander are nice and pleasant people of latin origin, speaking Spanish but have some knowledge of English and German. The crime rate is very low, the cost of living about 50% of the European level and gas prices are a few cents per liter. A truly touristic spot, Margarita offers historical sites, monuments, museums, and traditional villages to visit, but also exclusive stores and big malls. One may also venture to the mountains and steep valleys, view the unforgettable sunsets or enjoy the local food or the superb dishes of renown chefs, mainly seafood.

Beachs

The tropical climate allows to enjoy year round the numerous beaches this island has to offer: the virgin and hardly visited ones, ideal for resting, others with strong waves for surfing and the one at quite waters for boating and snorkeling. The beach route includes the north eastern coastline of the island with the well known beaches of El Agua, Parguito, Guacuco - where the visitor can find beach restaurants and seating services. Furthermore one may visit beaches like Manzanillo, Puerto Cruz, Playa Carihe and Playa Juan Griego enjoying water sports and watching the fishermen boats coming back from their night trips. Remote beaches like Punta Arenas, La Pared, el Tunal, El Faro and La Auyama, guarantee for privacy and adventure.
You can also enjoy Manzanillo, Puerto Cruz, Playa Caribe and Playa Juan Griego beaches. Very virgin and lonely beaches are Punta Arenas, La Pared, El Tunal, El Faro, La Auyama, which are ideal to escape from the crowd.

How to get there?

From the Simón Bolívar de Maiquetía International Airport (Caracas) that connects with the whole world (TAP, Iberia, American Airlines, Air Europa, Conviasa and other airlines. Regular flights were made from Caracas to Porlamar that last 30 minutes. Direct Charter Service from Puerto La Cruz Ferry.

Night life

Those looking for action and fun will find a wide variety of evening shows, discos, pubs, piano bars, night clubs and restaurants with live music.

One can join the craziest tropical parties for the young of age and heart hut also soft live music under the star studded tropical skies. Those who like to gamble may try their luck in the casinos or bingo rooms and at the slot machines.
