Where is the Best Place to Stay in Zermatt?
Zermatt is growing fast and new hotels and other accommodation choices are popping up all over, however it still remains a mountain village with a cosy flare and on the smaller side. Therefore, you can choose the accommodation mostly based on the price/amenities and do not have to worry much about the best area to stay in Zermatt. Whether you are looking for a small hotel with some nice double rooms, or one that offers a central location close to the Zermatt railway station. Zermatt is a great place to be no matter the location.
Remember, Zermatt is a car-free village, but there are plenty (nearly too many) taxis to shuttle you from the train station to your hotel and back should you not wish to walk.
Travel TIP: If you are visiting Zermatt during the summer months, bring your bikes. We did this last summer and really enjoyed cycling around Zermatt village. It is easier for the kids as well. Plus, there is the most amazing Flow-Trail in Zermatt, suitable for the whole family.

Best Hotel in Zermatt with a Matterhorn View
The following hotels have beautiful views from their rooms to the Matterhorn. In my opinion, when you stay the night in Zermatt a view over to this mighty mountain is well worth the extra.
Before you book check your room choice has a Matterhorn view as some hotels have limited stock.
Suitenhotel Zurbriggen – Wellness & Spa ( Chf 420.-)
This most beautiful Aparthotel is one of our favourite Hotels in Zermatt. Every room comes with an uninterrupted view to the Matterhorn. The quirky decor from the Hotel Family Architect Julen gives this place even a more special feel. The Wellness area at the bottom of the building invites to spend some quiete moments in a relaxing atmosphere.
Only 100metres from the Hotel door one can find the Matterhorn Glacier Gondola which will bring you up to Trockenersteg and further along to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradies.
This hotel is equally a hit for families or couples alike.

4-star family Hotel Metropol & Spa is located in the heart of Zermatt.
Offering a friendly and relaxing atmosphere with most rooms having direct views over to the Matterhorn. To have the best rooms for a Matterhorn view, choose the Superior Double Room, a south-facing location which guarantees excellent vistas.

Be sure to book in advance though because this hotel is extremely popular.
The Grand Hotel Zermatterhof (From Chf 330.-)
The Grand Hotel Zermatterhof has been named Hotel of the Year 2021 by Karl Wild, author of the renowned Swiss hotel ranking. You will not just stay at the Grand Zermatterhof, you will experience the Hotel Zermatterhof and it will be a treat to the highest standard.

The Omnia (from Chf 550.-)
The hotel on the rock, The Omnia – situated 45 metres above Zermatt Village. I like to call it a home rather than a hotel as that is what they aim to be. Your home away from home!
Stunning views of the Matterhorn from the outdoor pool area and jacuzzi, so close you feel like you can touch it.
With each and every room being different, whether in size, layout, or in the décor it provides a homely feel. The Omnia offers rooms in all different price categories but towards the top end of the market.
The Cervo Mountain Resort (from Chf 320.-)
This is not just any Zermatt Hotel or accommodation in Zermatt, it is much more – a gateway to the mystical mountain world of the Alps. The Cervo has built its own little hamlet. With 54 rooms and suites plus seven individual lodges there should be something for everyone.
Whether as a special occasion, base station for expeditions into the mountains of Zermatt or as a hideaway during a couple’s weekend.

It is affordable, has a great breakfast, a nice garden and a top floor family room with balcony and an amazing view over to the Matterhorn
If you are travelling to Zermatt during the winter, you are not too far from the cable cars of the Matterhorn Express lift and could probably store your skis at the lift station.
It is a fair bit of a walk from the train station to the hotel, therefore best to take a taxi or a bus. The hotel offers discounted fares, just get in touch with them regarding a taxi transfer to the hotel.
Exclusive Hotels in Zermatt up the Mountain
These next two fabulously extravagant hotels can only be accessed by the Gornergrat mountain railway which departs from opposite the Zermatt train station.

When you book your room and you do want to see the famous mountain make sure you book a direct Matterhorn view. Rooms with mountain views do not offer Matterhorn views.
Although if there is no such room left, any room is amazing at the Riffelhaus 1853.
The amazing outdoor hot tub with views of the Matterhorn and a spa area are part of the amenities this hotel offers. And if you are there to ski, you can literally roll out of bed, click into your ski-bindings and off you go for the day.

Another absolute amazing Hotel in Zermatt and also the highest hotel in the Swiss Alps is the unbelievable 3100 Kulmhotel Gornergrat.

The only downside to the 3100 Kulmhotel Gornergrat, is that it has no spa facilities.
Hotels In Zermatt Perfect for Families with “Kindergarten” child care
Free child care especially during dinner time is such a big plus to all parents with younger children.
Yes, the kids are drawing at the table for a while, but never when you would like to finish your glass of wine in peace. In addition these hotels in Zermatt have a spa area where children are permitted.
Resort La Ginabelle & Residenz Alitana (from Chf 350.-)
We love this hotel as it really catered for family needs! Its close proximity to the Sunnegga lift makes this hotel ideal all your round, whether for a family ski trip in Zermatt or for an adventurous mountain bike weekend.
You have the choice of staying in the Ginabelle Hotel where one can find spacious rooms, some with a Matterhorn view. If you would rather enjoy the privacy of your own apartment book at the Residenz Alitana.
With both choices of accommodation you have full access to all facilities. There are three different indoor and outdoor pools (34-36 ° C), including the new infinity pool, as well as two interconnected wellness areas with separate adults-only area. Families and couples traveling alone will feel equally at home here.
During dinner there is free child care for the little travellers in the family. They can go and do some arts and crafts, play, read a book and meet new friends, whilst you finish your gourmet dinner in peace and without stress.
If you want a room with a Matterhorn view, make sure you specify this on the reservation as these rooms are limited.
