When it comes to celebrities and those who live inside the gates of Hollywood, it would seem that the skeletons in their closets find a way out eventually. The mightiest fall the fastest and those who were known as the kindest, possess the most darkness. Unfortunately, very rarely is someone exempt from this, and Jim Carrey was not fortunate enough.
Jim Carrey
Carrey is a comedic icon, having revolutionized the genre and established himself as a talented actor in several genres. Despite this, there have been more than a few questionable moments in his career.

Alan Ritchson is the man of the moment. Success and the spotlight have not come to him overnight. Despite his professional and personal struggles, he never gave up on his dream of becoming a star one day. He might be one of the most in-demand action heroes now but his resilience as an actor is truly commendable.
As a young boy, Ritchson used to perform in school musicals and improv around the cafeteria. His inspiration behind this was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Minds star Jim Carrey. He got the chance to meet his idol once, but things turned out to be a little awry.

Allllllrighty Then! Fact: if you were a kid in the nineties, you grew up idolizing Jim Carrey, and probably had the two Ace Ventura movies memorized. Recently, actor Kurt Russell fondly reminisced about taking his son Wyatt to see Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and it looks like another Hollywood tough guy was also a huge fan as a kid. In a surprisingly deep THR profile, Reacher star Alan Ritchson fondly remembers seeing the film as a kid and found Carrey’s performance loosened him up, as he had a deeply devout, religious home life that tended to be austere.
Calling Carrey his hero, Ritchson remembers, “When Ace Ventura came out [in 1994], I was in sixth grade, and I was enamored. He was so physical, goofy and unafraid. I’d never seen anything like it. I dressed up as Ace Ventura for three Halloweens in a row. I showed up to school...

There is a good chance Ace Ventura: Pet Detective will come up in conversation if you ask someone who is strolling their dog on the street about their favorite Jim Carrey flick. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective earned mixed reviews upon its initial release, so it is almost funny to see how beloved it has become among fans despite this fact. Nevertheless, the film remains a hilarious detective satire.
Reviewers and viewers alike had a major effect because of Carrey’s performance. Not only did it initiate the actor’s cinematic career, but it also initiated a franchise. Having said that, what if we told you that Carrey was not the first choice to play such an iconic character?

The original contender for the role is also a legendary figure in the comedy film industry, but his comedic sensibility is nothing like Carrey’s outrageous and wild improvisation.

Everyone’s favourite Sticky Bandit, Daniel Stern, was the original choice for directing Jim Carrey comedy Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, but the actor has now shared why he turned it down.
Home Alone is a staple Christmas watch in most households, but did you know that one of the actors was the original director for Ace Ventura: Pet Detective?
That’s right. Daniel Stern, who played Marv in the first two Home Alone films, has recently revealed in an interview with Comicbook.com that he was in line to direct the Jim Carrey comedy but turned it down. Stern made his feature film directorial debut with 1993’s Rookie Of The Year, but has since only directed TV shows.

Allllllrighty then! 1994 was The Year of Jim Carrey, with the actor hitting an unprecedented run of three massive hits totaling over $700 million worldwide. First out of the gate was Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, the movie where Carrey made it look like his butt was talking. While it earned the least overall, many of us saw it upon release and knew Carrey was the next face of comedy. Hey, you may have even been at the multiplex with Kurt Russell, Goldie Hawn and their son Wyatt, who had a pretty amusing bonding experience when they caught it in February of that year.

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit the animated series adaptation of Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice,“ which aired from 1989 to 1991 on ABC/Fox Network.
In the eighties and nineties, studios were never shy about taking mature intellectual properties and cashing in on them by giving them their own animated spinoffs for kids. Among the rather extensive list were direct G-rated adaptations like “Rambo,” “Conan,” “Ace Ventura,” and even “Police Academy.” One of the most notable, and more widely celebrated adaptations was of Tim Burton’s 1988 hit film Beetlejuice. While the original movie excelled in being as menacing, bizarre, and raunchy as possible, executive producers Tim Burton and David Geffen opted for a more kid friendly variation of the “Ghost with the Most” for the animated series.
Aimed more for the 8-12 Saturday morning cartoon demographic, the animated show thankfully stuck true to much of what made the movie so entertaining.

Comedian Jim Carrey’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is seen by many as one of the most memorable movies in the actor’s career. But he wondered if there was a more appropriate time for the film to make its debut.
Jim Carrey felt ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ could’ve been more successful if it came out at better time Jim Carrey | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
By most metrics, Eternal Sunshine was seen as a success. Every actor’s performance, from Jim Carrey to Kate Winslet to Kirsten Dunst, received considerable praise in the feature. Critics also fell in love with the movie itself. It currently holds a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 256 critic reviews. Its box-office, however, only enjoyed modest success. According to The Numbers, it made $72 million off a $20 million budget. Although it made its money back, its monetary rewards paled a bit in comparison to its critical praise.

In Matthew Perry’s new memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, the author and actor spends most of the 250 pages discussing the Big Terrible Thing. For the very first time, he chronicles his addiction in great detail; Perry’s struggles with alcohol and painkillers have been known to the public for decades, but the book lays bare just how close to the edge he came — and how often.
Most of those disclosures have circulated in headlines in the days and weeks leading up to the memoir’s Oct. 28 publication, including that during the height of his addiction (and during many of the Friends years) he was taking 55 Vicodin pills a day; that he was in a coma several years ago and has had dozens of surgeries to repair his exploded colon; and that his Friends co-stars, most especially Jennifer Aniston, continued to reach out to him and offer...

1994 was a banner year for Jim Carrey. After years of working in standup in Toronto, numerous comedy and TV jobs, a year on his own sitcom, and a stint on the hit sketch comedy show "In Living Color," Carrey starred in three high-profile, ultra-successful comedy films released within the same year. "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" was released in February, "The Mask" was released in late July, and "Dumb and Dumber" came out that December. By the following year, Carrey was already playing one of the supervillains in a Batman film — one of the highest-profile jobs imaginable — and...

David J. Negron Sr., a conceptual painter, illustrator and storyboard artist with credits including Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters and Jurassic Park, died peacefully in his sleep on October 12, his family tells Deadline. He was 85.
“He was an inspiration to the Motion Picture community and the fine arts world,” the Negron family said in a statement. “We have lost a loving father, grandfather and a beautiful soul.”
Negron embarked on his career as a conceptual painter in the mid-1960s, going on to collaborate with Steven Spielberg on Indiana Jones and the Raiders of The Lost Ark and Jurassic Park, visualizing iconic scenes including the Giant Boulder chase for the former, along with various dinosaur environments for the latter. He also painted iconic images for Ridley Scott’s dystopian sci-fi classic, Blade Runner, based on Philip K. Dick’s 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?.

In the 1990s, Jim Carrey was an unstoppable force.
After a stint on “In Living Color,” where he created a rococo list of characters like Fire Marshall Bill and Vera De Milo, the rubber-faced comic seamlessly made the transition to the big screen. Despite a critical drubbing, “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” became a sleeper hit in the spring of 1994, grossing more than $100 million on a $15 million budget. Carrey followed that up with blockbusters like “The Mask,” “Dumb and Dumber,” and “Batman Forever,” assuming the role of the Riddler, a part once earmarked for Robin Williams. As fans flocked to see his latest movies, Carrey’s salary ballooned. When he first played Ace Ventura, Carrey pulled in $450,000, but by the time he was spiking Jeff Daniels’s coffee with ex-lax in “Dumb and Dumber,” the comic earned a cool $7 million for his efforts.

Are there really that many people that want to see a third Ace Ventura movie? Wouldn’t the pet detective have grown up a bit and found someone that could stand him by now? It does sound as though Ace Ventura 3 is going to be coming, but at this point, it’s hard to pin down any of the details since it’s not even known if Jim Carrey, the guy that made the character popular, will want to star in it. The question of whether people would accept another movie without Carrey in the lead spot is hard to say since

Everyone was protesting something on The Conners Season 3 Episode 5, but despite all of the strong beliefs and good intentions, the rent still needed to get paid.
What was most surprising was the happenings at Wellman Plastics and how Becky and Darlene reacted to them.
It was Darlene's response that bewildered me. For someone with the goal of becoming a supervisor at the factory so she can better support her family, Darlene didn't seem to register how a drug test could derail that for her.
The Conners talk about getting high regularly. Becky finds Louise's weed hidden in her moisturizer jar. Harris has spoken more than once about buying her own drugs, and now Ben and Darlene were getting high on edibles while hanging out in the driveway.
Even if the drugs are legal in their particular state, there are consequences to using them, similar if not worse than drinking alcohol.

Beloved actor and comedian Jim Carrey has been portraying now President-elect Joe Biden on Saturday Night Live throughout the current season, and though many find his impersonation downright hilarious, others have found it a little excessive and not at all an accurate representation of the politician.
But Carrey’s most recent skit as Biden – wherein he gives a victory speech following winning the election – featured a hilarious callback to one of the actor’s most popular roles, Ace Ventura, who he played in both Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and the equally funny sequel Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. While delivering the speech, the actor used one of the character’s catchphrases to great effect, which served as a reminder to nostalgic fans of just how much they miss him.

Alrighty then! Netflix just made a lot of people very happy by adding one of the best titles in Jim Carrey’s extensive filmography today. For months now, customers have been able to enjoy Ace Ventura: Pet Detective on the platform, but have been disappointed to find out that the sequel isn’t anywhere to be found on the streaming service. Apparently, though, those in charge heard the complaints and actually did something about it, as Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls is finally available for subscribers to watch, just in time for the weekend.
The 1995 detective comedy classic sees Carrey is back in action as the titular animal sleuth, still just as wacky and uncontrollable as he was in the first flick. While in the Himalayas on vacation, the investigator is forced out of retirement when the exchange of an endangered white bat threatens to send an African village into a civil war.

Netflix was ahead of the game for October, releasing its “Netflix and Chills” horror lineup in anticipation of the Halloween season. Now the streaming giant has unveiled its full lineup for October, and believe it or not: horror remains at the forefront of its strategy.

The film side of things is where most of Netflix’s other horror originals reside, with Hubie Halloween (Oct. 7), A Babysitters’ Guide to Monster Hunting (Oct. 15), and Rebecca (Oct. 22) all making their debut.
Some non-horror originals of note this month include high school drama Grand Army (Oct. 16) and the Anya-Taylor Joy-starring chess story The Queen’s Gambit (Oct. 26). Aaron Sorkin’s latest film, The Trial of the Chicago 7, arrives on Oct. 16.

The rubber-faced funnyman made Ace Ventura, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber in the same year. But as he prepares to publish his memoirs, we ask: was that as good as it got?
By and large, Jim Carrey either makes good films or very, very bad films. The latter includes mush such as The Majestic, comedic misfires such as The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and such dreary genre misfires as Dark Crimes. But it also includes The Number 23, a thriller in which Carrey becomes obsessed with a book that he forgot he wrote, about the number 23. The book was written by a man named Topsy Kretts. Say it out loud. That’s right: it sounds like “Top Secrets”. The Number 23 is a terrible film, but you can watch the heck out of it drunk.

Watching “Soapdish” as a child in the 90s was the first time I saw what life could be like for a transgender actress. Montana Moorehood, an actress on a soap opera played beautifully by Cathy Moriarty, is forcibly outed as a transgender woman to her co-stars. They react with shock and disgust, with her producer saying “She’s a boy” and the man who’s been intimate with her nearly pukes in his hand. Seeing that was not a positive experience for me.
I fell in love hard with Hollywood at a very young age. Watching TV and film was how I learned to speak English and discovered that I wanted to act, but life changed shortly after “Soapdish.” I was no longer allowed to be as feminine in my presentation. I was forced to cut my hair short and my parents bought boy-presenting clothes to protect me because they feared for my life.

Now that we’re living in a post “Release The Snyder Cut” world where that wish was eventually granted, what other alternate or extended cuts are out there? Well, as it turns out, there’s another one from the world of DC.
Writer and podcaster Marc Bernardin has revealed that there’s a three-hour director’s cut of Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever. Barnardin said that the extra hour is much darker and delves deeper into Bruce Wayne’s personal demons. We already know that there’s a famous deleted scene of Bruce (Val Kilmer) confronting a giant bat in a dream sequence and it’s no doubt included in this extended cut.
“I have it on pretty good authority that there exists in the Warner Bros. vault a 170-minute cut of Batman Forever,” Bernardin told his co-host Kevin Smith. “I think that it went much deeper into his childhood...

There’s already an absolutely massive collection of fantastic movies and shows to watch on Netflix right now, including the recent David Spade and Lauren Lapkus comedy, The Wrong Missy, which has been doing well on the service’s Top 10 list since its release on May 13th. This month’s inclusion of classics like Back to the Future, the thought-provoking sci-fi flick, District 9, and Jim Carrey’s Ace Ventura and Fun with Dick and Jane just sweeten the pot even further – and that’s just what’s landed on the service in the past few weeks.
With so many good times to be had right now, today’s addition of The Lovebirds is merely icing on the cake. Even so, the movie is garnering quite the hype, all but certainly earning itself a spot on the Top 10 list in no time at all. Directed by Michael Showalter and starring Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae,...

It’s the first day of May, and Netflix is already knocking it out of the park with a big content drop to keep you busy while you’re stuck inside. Tons of great new movies and shows have landed on the service today, including plenty of wonderful classics you’re going to want to check out.
Perhaps most notable is the inclusion of Back to the Future and Back to the Future Part II, which will be joining the third film to round out the trilogy. This time-traveling classic would make for excellent weekend family viewing alongside Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and its more modern adaptation, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
While those films are suitable for families, you can rest assured that Netflix has you covered on children-specific content, too. Your little ones will be happy to see multiple Thomas & Friends titles and the animated sequel Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa,...

You’re probably stuck inside right now during the pandemic and pining for the days when you had a social life. Thankfully, Netflix is coming to the rescue in May with a really exciting lineup of hit movies and new shows.
It’ll be a great month for films, specifically. The incredibly popular 80s time-traveling pics Back to the Future and Back to the Future Part II will be joining the already-included third entry in the franchise, while those seeking some good laughs can check out the Jim Carrey-led comedies Fun with Dick and Jane and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
Meanwhile, multiple entries in the Underworld series are dropping on the service for action-horror fans, whereas kids will be happy to hear that both Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory will be available right out of the gate.

With the continuing Coronavirus pandemic placing social restrictions on millions of people around the world, social media has proven to be an invaluable tool in allowing folks to stay connected to each other. This has led to many movie-related debates finding themselves trending online, ranging from trying to figure out which entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe can be declared the worst, to deciding whether Optimus Prime or Captain America was the more inspirational leader.
The subject of the latest discourse is the filmography of Jim Carrey, with Twitter users going back-and-forth in an attempt to declare which three entries from the rubber-faced funnyman’s back catalogue come out on top. However, the choice is limited to just eight movies, which means some heavy hitters and fan favorites don’t even make the initial cut.

There are a lot of new films coming to the McU over the next few years and that means a whole new lineup of evildoers will ultimately make the jump from the comics to the big screen. Marvel will undoubtedly be looking to tap some of the industry’s most talented individuals to bring their new villains to life and one name the studio is reportedly interested in is Sonic the Hedgehog star Jim Carrey.
Carrey has been on a bit of a comeback streak lately and fans couldn’t be happier about it. His Showtime series Kidding continues to get decent reviews and his performance in Sonic the Hedgehog was very reminiscent of his days in Ace Ventura and The Mask. That part must have helped him get back in the mindset of the green-faced antihero as well, as he’ll be reprising his role from the 1994 film for the upcoming Space Jam 2.

We learned late last year that Morgan Creek Productions are eager to get started on Ace Ventura 3, but at this point, it seems everyone’s just waiting for Jim Carrey to sign off on the project and hop on board. When exactly that’ll happen, we don’t yet know, but according to our sources, there’s already some interest from a major Hollywood studio who hope to distribute it.
Though we haven’t been told who it may be, our intel says that one of the big studios definitely wants to do the threequel, but again, it all hinges on Carrey and if he’ll agree to reprise the role. And given that this comes to us from the same sources who told us about Morgan Creek developing Ace Ventura 3 months ago, which the company later confirmed themselves, we’ve no reason to doubt it.

Sonic the Hedgehog performed better than anyone expected over the four-day weekend, suggesting '90s nostalgia is here.
Whoever said there is no such thing as bad press might’ve been onto something—unless they were also the same great thinker who suggested video game movies were a sucker’s racket. Indeed, opening about three months after its original release date, and with major post-production CGI surgery to its title character after online backlash, Sonic the Hedgehog zipped past all expectations Valentine’s Day and Presidents’ Day weekend to a stunning debut.
Grossing an estimated $57 million over the traditional three-day weekend frame and a total of $68 million over the four-day holiday weekend, Sonic the Hedgehog dominated the box office this weekend and defied even the rosiest projections. In fact, studio Paramount Pictures pegged their blue devil movie as opening at $50 million over the four-day weekend, and the...

Count me as one of the chorus of people who, when the “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie was announced, rolled my eyes and exclaimed, “No one asked for this!”
And yet, here I sit completely eating my words, because that movie with the weird VFX re-do that inspired some rather harsh memes turns out to be a complete delight, offering some really great family-friendly fun.
Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) lands on Earth as a child after escaping his home planet, where he was chased by evil creatures who wanted to use his abilities for themselves. Using one of the golden rings given to him by his pseudo-mother, Long Claw, he lands in Green Hills, Montana. There he grows up, enjoying the simple things — reading his favorite comic books (“The Flash”), playing ping-pong with himself, listening to music, and observing the townspeople, while staying completely hidden. His favorite people to watch...

When watching Sonic the Hedgehog, it is easy to feel like you’ve time warped back to a different era—but not the 1990s. At least not fully. While the film thrives on a wave of nostalgia that any ‘90s kid with shadows of Sega Genesis glory in their memory banks can recognize, in truth the movie more closely resembles a family film from the 2000s. For here is a perfectly adequate effort that refuses to rock the boat or even leave the bay. It instead sits firmly on the dock, relying on banal pop culture gags, a tacky premise about beloved pop culture icons entering suburbia via interdimensional portals, and maybe the stray fart joke. They even have a major comedian from...

During the San Diego Comic-Con International, it was confirmed that Darkseid and the evil New Gods of Apokolips will be heavily featured during the tenth and final season of "Smallville." And while there is currently no announcement as to who will portray Darkseid on the series, two of his primary followers have already been cast.
Steve Byers (pictured) will play Desaad and Michael Daingerfield will step into the role of Gordon Godfrey in the third episode of the season, according to Kryptonsite. The episode is entitled "Supergirl" and also features the previously announced return of Laura Vandervoort as Kara.
Desaad is one of Darkseid's main henchmen in the original "New Gods" stories by Jack Kirby. In the miniseries "Legends," Glorious Godfrey — another agent of Darkseid — took on the name Gordon Godfrey as he led a campaign of fear and hate against all superheroes.
