    India is a “Friend in Need” says Tanzania

    Synopsis

    India and Tanzania share a multifaceted relation. Recently, Dy NSA Vikram Misri had visited the country followed by Def-Expo organised by India with participation of 16 Indian defence manufacturers. Water sector has also evolved as an important area of partnership in recent years.

    Tanzania relations reached a new height with Indian development assistance crossing US$ 1 billion, biggest in any country in Africa.

    Recently a ceremony was hosted at Presidents house in Tanzania where Indian companies signed Contracts for water projects in 24 major towns of Tanzania funded by Line of Credit of USD 500 million from EXIM bank, Government of India. President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Speaker of National Assembly, Foreign Minister among many dignitaries witnessed this event. L&T Infrastructure, Afcons-Vijeta, Megha Engineering, Jindal Water limited have been selected by Tanzanian side to do the projects.

    “A friend in need is a friend indeed” is how President Samia Hassan described India’s relation with Tanzania. She thanked India for the developmental assistance and added that India is “the greatest development partner of Tanzania in water sector”. She also appreciated Indian assistance in human resource development of Tanzania esp training and scholarship. She recalled her own ITEC training at Hyderabad based National Institute of Rural Development.
