Welcome to Ganga Sagar Mela 2023.

Welcome to Ganga Sagar Mela 2023.

Makar Sankranti and Ganga Sagar Mela are the first auspicious occasion in the new year. On this day, the Sun God will make the northward movement, Uttarayana, and bring more light and good fortune.

The second largest Pilgrimage gathering next to Kumbha Mela, Ganga Sagar Mela takes place on the day when millions of pilgrims from the whole world gather to take a sacred dip in the confluence of River Ganga and the Bay of Bengal on Makar Sankranti. The Gangasagar Mela happens to be one of the most famous religious fairings in the world, celebrated with great pomp and grandeur. Vedic sastra state that a holy dip at the confluence on Makar Sankranti cleanses all sins. The sacred atmosphere of Kapil Munir Ashram attracts tourists every year.

To welcome and accommodate the lakhs of pilgrims, a temporary city is erected on the shores of Ganga Sagar on this auspicious bathing day. Ganga Sagar Mela is the convention of great souls like yogis, pious pilgrims, sadhus (saints), sannyasis, and brahmacharis, the spiritual tourists who come from around the world. Many Sadhus come from various holy places and the remotest forests and mountain caves in the Himalayas. The most popular visitors are the Naga Babas. These Naga Babas wear no clothes; ash is the only thing covering their bodies. They wear their hair in dreadlocks and appear to be impervious to their surroundings.

This year ISKCON Gangasagar center opened its charitable camp from 11-16th January on Sagar Island, 400 meters away from Kapil Muni Ashram on Road no.5, in between K2 Bus stand and Helipad.
