January 06, Forty Years Ago: BJP’s Chargesheet

The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Lok Dal have decided to submit a chargesheet to the President on March 6 against Mrs Indira Gandhi’s regime, highlighting its failure on the economic, law and order, and employment fronts. Similar chargesheets are to be submitted against Congress (I)-run state governments to their respective governors between March 13 and 17.

Andhra Protests

The Congress (I)-sponsored state panchayat raj, cooperative societies and municipalities convention has decided to organise mass movements against the mandal setup in Andhra Pradesh. The convention, attended by 15,000 delegates, felt that the mandals would scrap the posts of samiti presidents whose term was yet to expire. The session pointed out that setting up mandals was not in the manifesto of the Telugu Desam Party.

Missing Diplomat

The Indian diplomat suspected to have been kidnapped in Birmingham by a group of Kashmiri militants remains untraced amidst mounting police concerns. The police and detectives are searching all possible houses, restaurants and public houses including pubs in Birmingham generally frequented by the suspected Kashmiri youths. It is feared that they might have taken their “catch” away.
