Actor Deepika Padukone has had an illustrious career in the Hindi film industry until now and she continues to entertain the audience with her charm and acting talent. But the actor also had her share of controversies over the course of her career. One of them was over her attending a students’ protest against the amended Citizenship Act at Jawaharlal Nehru University in January 2020 when she visited the campus. In a new interview, Deepika mentioned that she is “not afraid” of speaking her mind and having a different opinion from others.

She told Vogue, “When I feel really strongly or passionately about something, I don’t think twice about expressing myself. I’ve grown to become this person where I’m not afraid of speaking my truth or owning up to mistakes. I’m not afraid of saying sorry.”

Deepika also found herself at the centre of trolls around the release of her film Padmaavat. She also received political backlash for the film, in which she essayed the role of Queen Padmavati. Certain scenes of the film were changed and the film’s name was altered to Padmavat from Padmavati after a fringe outfit claimed it disrespected the sentiments of Rajputs. But, Deepika remained unfazed by all the protests and criticism.

Earlier this year, she was caught in a storm yet again over the Pathaan song “Besharam Rang”, in which she wore a saffron-coloured bikini in one sequence. BJP ministers and right-wing outfits claimed the track insulted the saffron colour “which is holy for the Hindu community.”

Deepika once again remained calm, probably because she didn’t mind having a different opinion. The actor said in the latest interview, “I’m okay to be the only person in the room who has a different point of view.”

Festive offer

Meanwhile, the actor has two big releases in the pipeline– the sci-fi actioner Kalki 2898 AD, co-starring Prabhas and Pathaan director Siddharth Anand’s next, Fighter, which also stars Hrithik Roshan and Anil Kapoor.
