Mahindra has finally introduced the automatic version of the new-gen Scorpio. The Scorpio Automatic is available in both 2WD and 4WD versions, carrying a price tag of Rs 13.13 lakh and Rs 14.32 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), respectively.

Mahindra used to offer the previous-gen Scorpio with an automatic gearbox. However, at the time of the launch of the new-gen Scorpio in 2014, the SUV was only made available with a manual gearbox across all trim variants. Mahindra may have taken its own sweet time to introduce an automatic gearbox in the new-gen Scorpio, but then it comes with one major improvement.

Unlike the last-gen Scorpio, the new model incorporates a 6-speed automatic gearbox as opposed to a 5-speed transmission in the previous model. This gearbox is slightly more advanced and new-age than before since it also does duty in the SsangYong Tivoli, which is only available in foreign markets as of now. For the uninformed, SsangYong is an Korean automobile manufacturer that was acquired by Mahindra in 2011.

That said, the Scorpio will still have a slightly upper hand since it has 4WD available in both automatic and manual versions; none of which will be offered in the Hyundai Creta.
