Reliance ADA Group’s chairman Anil Ambani’s wife Tina Ambani appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on 4th of July, 2023. Earlier, on Monday, Anil Ambani deposed before the ED in connection with violation of FEMA (Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999). Anil Ambani had recorded his statement at the Mumbai office of the agency. Tina Ambani was also asked to appear before ED on Monday, but she asked for exemption. The ED, however, issued fresh summons to the billionaire’s wife. The details of the current case are not made public yet by the ED. The probe could be over the Anil Ambani family’s offshore investments and alleged contravention of FEMA.

Earlier in 2020, Anil Ambani was probed by the ED, alongside Rana Kapoor and others, in connection with the money laundering case related to Yes Bank loan. The central agency had alleged that Ambani’s company was the benefactor of Yes Bank’s loans and is the biggest non-performing assets of the bank.

On 8th August 2022, the IT department served Anil Ambani a notice on alleged tax evasion of Rs 420 crore. Allegedly Mr Ambani holds undisclosed funds of over Rs 814 crore in two Swiss bank accounts. This makes him liable to be prosecuted under Black Money Imposition of Tax Act. Anil Ambani was charged with wilful evasion and intentionally not disclosing foreign accounts and assets. However, on April 5, 2023, the Bombay High Court issued an interim stay on the show case and penalty levied on Anil Ambani by the IT department.

The Anil-Tina Ambani family also owns the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani & Medical Research Institute in Mumbai. The family matriarch Kokilaben Ambani stays with the Anil-Tina Ambani family in their 17-storey home in Pali Hills. Mukesh Ambani’s family stayed with the Anil Ambani family at this house until they moved to Antilia.
