Topes de Collantes Natural Park, it constitutes a unique paradise for lovers of direct contact with nature. It is a place to stop before the existence of a prodigal nature that creates a healthy and purified environment of pollution levels of modern life, stress and anxiety. It is a mountain village located in the natural park of the same name; it is located in the Sierra del Escambray, 800 meters above sea level. You will immediately feel the difference in temperature with an average of 21 degrees Celsius much cooler than in Trinidad. This mountain climate benefits the production of coffee, whose plantations can be known while hiking. The lovers of the same one will delight in the House of the Coffee, where the walk towards the Salto Vega Grande will begin. During the tour you will have the unique opportunity to rediscover many caves and natural grottoes covered by large bushes and tree ferns native to the area. The Vega Grandes waterfall is formed by rivers that cross the valleys in the mountainous massif of Escambray, also known in the aboriginal name of Guamuaya, and form beautiful waterfalls that fall into crystal clear pools of natural formation and that is the biggest prize after having toured the whole place. Thanks to the almost perennial and intense rains from the north and the dry breezes from the south, the region is one of the most important natural ecosystems in Cuba, and the site of settlement for many of Cuba's colorful endemic birds. The entire Vega Grande trail covers about 1,500 meters to be hiked and you will be able to see endemic birds of Cuba. The ideal is to do the tour with a guide who can show you the details of the area and guide you through the most beautiful places of the Gran Parque Topes de Collante. The complexity is usually high because the terrain on which you walk has an inclination of 45 degrees that make the journey half walk, half climb to the second highest waterfall in Cuba. You can also relieve the fatigue of the road in a natural pool that will be revitalizing. The Vegas Grandes River, from which the waterfall flows, is northwest of Pico Potrerillo. It can be accessed by two trails: a northern one that passes first through the Salto del Caburní and a southern one that leads directly to the waterfall. The route is made through a tropical path that goes through rocks, small lakes, tributaries of the river and an approximate height of two kilometers above sea level. The Vegas Grandes trail seems to be the "all inclusive" of those offered in Topes de Collantes. There you will find a cave, a viewpoint, waterfalls, pools for bathing, birds and plants that illustrate the fauna of the Cuban nation, inclined areas and slopes that will make the climb and hike through a kind of jungle canyon more complicated.
