Thiruvananthapuram: Attempts are being made to bring social reformer Sree Narayana Guru’s teeth, the only bodily remains of the spiritual leader, back to Kerala. At present, they are kept at the Guru Devagiri Temple, under the Sree Narayana Mandira Samiti, in Mumbai. The teeth were treasured by dentist GO Pal who treated Guru in 1925 in Sivagiri, Varkala.

As Guru suffered from severe toothache, Pal removed three of his teeth and preserved them. Now, Pal’s son Dr Gopal Shivarajpal is attempting to give it to Sivagiri. Earlier, the Smithsonian Institution Museum in the US had expressed a desire to preserve the teeth. However, Dr Pal was not ready to hand it over to them. He passed away at the age of 96.

Ahead of his death, Pal told his son to give the teeth to his friend Sivadasan Madhavan. In addition, he expressed his desire to keep it in a place where devotees could have darshan of it. Following that, the teeth were handed over to the temple committee upon the advice of the then committee president, Dr KK Damodaran.

However, Dr Shivrajpal had a change of heart upon visiting Sivagiri the other day. Following which he came to the conclusion that Sivagiri was the right place to keep Guru’s remains.
