IPL Scam: Cricket fever has taken over the nation as the new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has started. Fans are eagerly waiting to witness the T20 Matches at the stadium. However, amid the excitement and demand for the match, an IPL supporter allegedly fell victim to a scam and lost nearly Rs 86,000 after purchasing tickets from an individual she encountered on Facebook.
The incident occurred when a 43-year-old woman was searching for 20 tickets to attend the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 29. Desperate to purchase the ticket, she came across a Facebook account named "IPL Cricket Ticket" and promptly contacted the provided phone number.

The person on the other end of the call requested an advance payment to confirm the IPL match tickets. Eager to secure her spot, the woman quickly agreed and transferred Rs 8,000 to the caller for pre-booking purposes. As the transaction progressed, the seller asked for an additional Rs 11,000, which the woman immediately sent.
However, the situation turned suspicious when the woman was asked to transfer Rs 8,170 to a bank account under the name of Abdul Kalam. Despite her confusion, she initiated the transaction. Further, the scammer demanded a payments of Rs 14,999 and Rs 21,000 to separate bank accounts, bringing the total amount to Rs 86,265.
After making the initial payments, she requested the scammers to send her tickets. The man refused and insisted on an additional payment of Rs 16,000 due to a technical glitch and assured her of a refund. Suspecting a scam, she threatened the scammers to report to the police, but the caller remained unfazed and asked her to do whatever action she wanted to before disconnecting the call.
Following the incident, the woman lodged a complaint at a local police station, accusing the anonymous individual of cheating and dishonesty.
