Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will introduce a virtual shopping app by the end of July. Momentum 2.0, an app, would enable commuters to purchase a variety of goods and pick them up at the metro stations of their choice. Through the app, they can also make reservations for last-mile connectivity on the app.
DMRC is establishing virtual storefronts and smart lockers at 21 stations during the first phase, where orders will be stored until the items are retrieved. According to authorities, there is potential to extend the service to all stations on the network based on how well they function.
With the option to add an additional 24 lockers later, smart lockers will initially feature 72 lockers. Moreover, commuters will be able to make purchases straight from the virtual storefronts located at the metro stations. Each virtual store will have a 65-inch screen to display product images.
"The close-loop testing of the app is going on for overall performance. The installation of smart lockers and virtual stores is also going on. The app is expected to be launched by July," Anuj Dayal, principal executive director of corporate communications at DMRC, as quoted by Times Now.
The app will have instant access to services like taxi, e-rickshaw, and bike rental bookings, as well as feeder, DTC, and cluster bus schedules and routes from metro stations. The app will also include extra features, including smart payments for insurance, electricity, gas and FASTag, as well as rapid recharging for Delhi Metro's smart cards.
Also, it would include comprehensive details about the amenities offered at metro stations, such as the location and status of gates, lifts, escalators, platforms, train schedules, coach occupancy and available space.
