English: A beautiful painting of a scene from the Durga Puja, a traditional Hindu festival celebrated in Eastern India, depicting the Hindu goddess Durga slaying an evil demon, symbolising the triumph of good over evil. This painting greets you at the exit at the domestic terminal of Calcutta (Kolkata) airport in eastern India. My son and I are transiting here on our way to our respective home bases of Nagpur and Poona (Pune) respectively after having attended a wedding in Manipur in NE India. Durga Puja is celebrated in the Indian states of West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Tripura, and Odisha (Orissa), the country of Bangladesh, and the diaspora from this region, and also in Nepal, where it is celebrated as Dashain.
