2012 ABARTH PUNTO EVO SCORPIONE

This Abarth Punto Evo Scorpione is remarkably rare modern hot hatch, understood to be one of just 20 right-hand-drive cars built worldwide. Derived from the Punto Supersport, the Scorpione was aimed at Abarth collectors, and were available by special factory order only. With 180hp available from its 1.4-litre turbocharged engine and mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, this low-mileage Italian pocket rocket boasts impressive performance as well as exclusivity.

An online HPI check indicates that this Punto was briefly first registered overseas – likely as a demonstrator in South Africa – before being re-registered in the UK in August 2013. There is just one previous registered keeper in the UK, and the vendor has owned the Scorpione for five years. As confirmed by the MOT history, the car was kept off the road between mid-2016 and early 2020, but was still seen annually by the Abarth dealer in Knutsford during this period.

Finished in Scorpione Black, the metallic bodywork is accented with matt black detailing on the roof. The vendor states that the original paintwork is in good condition but with a few imperfections such a small dent on the boot, which should be able to be pulled back into shape without damaging the paint, and a scratch on the driver’s door. There are also some minor stone chips, as well as some bubbling in the window surrounds. The 18-inch wheels still retain their glossy black lustre, and house yellow painted Brembo brake callipers.

The black cloth interior trim is described as excellent by the vendor, featuring model specific detailing such as ‘Abarth Corsa by Sabelt’ sport seats, leather steering wheel and gear knob. The seat trims and gear shift gaiter are accented with bespoke red and yellow stitching, while there are also alloy pedals, Scorpione mats and Jaeger instruments. Close inspection shows only minimal signs of use, and the vendor understands that the rear seats have never even been sat in. All electrics are reportedly in full working order, and there are no dashboard warning lights.

Offered with a comprehensive Abarth dealer service history, the Scorpione was last serviced in August 2020 at 24,542 miles. This included a new cam belt and major service. Serviced annually irrespective of mileage, the previous two services were in June 2019 and August 2018. The only other maintenance reported by the vendor during his ownership is the replacement of the multi filter, which was supplied and fitted by Abarth.

The most recent MOT test was on 6 August 2020 at 25,407 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with only one advisory for some slight cracking or damage in the nearside front tyre. Fitted with Yokahama Advan Sport tyres, they are all reported to have 5mm or more tread remaining.

Supplied with its red Abarth owner’s wallet housing the stamped service record, user guides and various period literature, the history file is supplemented by a number of service invoices and health check documentation.

This Abarth Punto Evo Scorpione is a rare limited edition that would make a great addition to any collection of Italian modern classics. Every Scorpione came as standard with the ‘Esseesse’ performance package, incorporating Koni FSD shock absorbers, and Brembo front brakes with floating discs and four-piston callipers, giving it superb performance on the road. With low ownership and low mileage, this is a great opportunity to acquire one of the rarest Abarth models ever produced.
