‘Christmas Island’ Review

While Hallmark seems to always be in the Christmas spirit, with Thanksgiving being less than two weeks away, I’m ready to start embracing the holiday spirit! And with that being said, what better way to kick things off than with Christmas Island? It gives us Andrew Walker and Rachel Skarsten! And as if that wasn’t enough, we have a snowstorm stranding the main characters together, which is also a recipe for romance along with the disaster. So keep reading for my Christmas Island review! Be warned, since it is a review and not a plot summary, there will be spoilers!

Our Kind of Island

Kate’s luck went from bad to worse. As if being stranded at Christmas because of a pretty intense storm while on her first private flight as a pilot isn’t bad enough. She also had a snarky air traffic controller and a family that wasn’t very impressed with being stranded in Nova Scotia with their two kids instead of Switzerland. Luckily, it could have been way worse. Because from everything I saw, Christmas Island is the place to be. Especially during the holidays. It had the hometown, small-town, sweet, neighborly vibe that always makes for a charming backdrop. Plus, the townspeople were pretty welcoming and nothing short of hospitable and warm.

Also, let’s be honest. I do have to add that having that snarky air traffic controller being an expert in all things Christmas along with being extremely handsome certainly didn’t hurt. The indoor and outdoor decor of every scene definitely helped get me into the Christmas spirit. The sets were beautiful and the consistent theme of red and green clothing was definitely noticed and well received. I was beyond impressed with the entire setup and it had me happy to be all snuggled up on a Saturday night watching this one. The added element of a family not related to the two main characters was a nice addition and allowed for some great scenes and character progression.

Perfect Pairing

While Oliver excels at being snarky and sarcastic, he certainly meets his match with Kate. Because she was able to spar with him without hesitation. We obviously all knew that the two of them were going to end up together before the movie even began, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. And Andrew Walker and Rachel Skarsten were the perfect pair to make this matchup entertaining and fun. Their characters also had some really beautiful emotional bonding and more somber scenes that were really well done. The family definitely needed some Christmas cheer. The parents were a bit frustrating to watch in the beginning. Luckily, with Oliver and Kate, the kids were able to enjoy some Christmas festivities. And they naturally learned a lot along the way.

Side note, the chemistry between Andrew Walker and Rachel Skarsten was absolutely perfect. These two are such powerhouses on their own. So putting them opposite each other was the perfect play. Especially for a heartwarming holiday movie. Well done to Hallmark on that one! Not that I’m not always a sucker for an Andrew Walker or Rachel Skarsten movie anyway. Because I most definitely am. Kate Drummond, Jefferson Brown, and the rest of the cast were also phenomenal. It definitely made for an enjoyable introduction for my personal start down the Hallmark Countdown to Christmas path! Also, someone has to agree with me that Andrew’s Belsnickel bit was at least a little bit of improv on his part.

The Holidays are Here

I will be the first to admit that I love Hallmark and I love Christmas. So naturally, I love Hallmark Christmas movies. But even I feel like sometimes it really is just too soon for Christmas. I know that’s blasphemy in the Hallmark world. But it’s true. Especially because I’m also a total sucker for the mystery series on Hallmark. So I would love more time to be spent on those movies too. Though even I can admit with the second week of November being here, I am definitely ready for the holiday movies to come at me. And it looks like there is already quite a selection of new ones to choose from and more on the way. So stay with us as we do our best to cover as many as possible this holiday season!
