Geotropism:

  1. Geotropism is directional movement in response to gravity.
  2. Charles Darwin was one of the scientists who first showed positive gravitropism in the roots and negative gravitropism in stems.
  3. That is, roots grow in the downward direction of gravitational pull whereas the stem grows in the upward direction showing the opposite direction.
  4. Positive geotropism is a tendency of roots to grow downwards.
  5. Negative geotropism is a tendency of the plant to grow upward. An example is a stem.
