List of Nuclear Power Plants in India 2022: Nuclear Power is the fifth-largest source of generating electricity in India after coal, gas, wind power, and hydroelectricity. At present, India has 22 operational nuclear reactors with an installed capacity of about 6,780 MW

The nuclear energy programme in India was launched around the time of independence under the leadership of Homi J. Bhabha.

Asia’s first nuclear reactor is the Apsara Research Reactor situated in Mumbai. The domestic uranium reserve in India is small and the country is dependent on uranium imports from other countries to provide fuel to its nuclear power industry. Since the 1990s, Russia has been a major supplier of nuclear fuel to India.

Basic Facts

The Government of India is committed to increasing its nuclear power capacity as part of its infrastructure development programme. For this, the Centre has set several ambitious targets in the coming years. India is outside the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty due to its weapons programme and was largely excluded from trade in nuclear plants and materials for a period of 34 years, which impacted its development of civil nuclear energy until 2009.

Moreover, since 2010, an incompatibility between India’s civil liability law and international conventions has limited the provision of foreign technology in nuclear research. India was granted access to civilian nuclear technology and fuel from other countries after a waiver was granted by the 48-nation Nuclear Supplier Group (NSG) on 6 September 2008.This article will provide you with a list of Operational Nuclear Power Plants in India in 2022, along with Under Construction Nuclear Power Plants in India, and Planned Nuclear Power Plants in India.
