Advaita Ashrama, Mayavati

The ashrama was founded in 1899 as per the wish of Swami Vivekananda for the practice and preaching of Advaita Vedanta. Situated in the solitude of deep Himalayan forests, it commands a magnificent view of the snow-capped mountain range covering 380 km in length.

Activities at Mayavati:

  • A 25-bed hospital  and medical camps (ENT, eye, skin, etc).
  • A public library.
  • Editing of Prabuddha Bharata (Awakened India), English monthly, founded by Swami Vivekananda.
  • A guest house for spiritual aspirants.
  • A Dairy and agriculture on a moderate scale.
  • Occasional spiritual retreats.

Kolkata branch:

Advaita Ashrama is the premier publishing house of the Ramakrishna Math. To facilitate the work of publication and distribution of books, a branch was started in Kolkata in 1920. After changing its location twice,  this branch moved to its present location in Entally in 1960.

Activities at Kolkata:

  • Publication of books in English and Hindi: total number of titles: 561. Published e-books and audio books also.
  • Publication of the English monthly Prabuddha Bharata
  • A public library.
  • A weekly study circle.
  • Religious classes and public lectures in online mode.
  • Welfare activities: Providing ration kits, clothes, blankets, educational aid and pecuniary help.
