The Jatiya Hindu Mohajote, or the National Hindu Grand Alliance, made the demand at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Friday.
The demand came against the backdrop of attacks on minorities at different parts of the country.
Reading out a statement, Mohajote spokesperson Palash Kanti Dey said, “A minority affairs ministry has to be constituted and a law formulated for the security of the lives and property of the minorities.”
He demanded the constitution of committees to investigate the attacks on establishments of the minorities, including Kantaji and ISKCON temples in Dinajpur, and trial of the culprits.
Dey also demanded trial of those responsible for a recent acid attack on a female student of Dhamrai College, Mallika Chakrabarty.
Mohajote President Dr Probhash Chandra Roy and Secretary General Ananda Kumar Biswas also spoke at the press meet.
They alleged that members of the minority communities were being intimidated ahead of the municipal elections.
