Another Visit To Chennai

Besant Nagar Beach
Besant Nagar Beach

Chennai, even called Madras is at the south of India in Tamil Nadu state.  I never had Chennai in my list to visit again, as in July 2011 also I had been there and it was a bad experience because of its weather. We didn’t go anywhere except Marina Beach and returned so soon that we didn’t even enjoy anything, and it was very hot. But this time, weather was in our favor as it’s just January and it was our anniversary as well.  We left Bangalore on Monday late night as our anniversary was on Tuesday. We reached at Central Railway Station at Chennai, early morning. We took a walk toward our hotel, Mount Residency, but as we kept on walking, don’t know if the temperature of our body or Chennai was increasing 😀

As we reached the Hotel and stayed there for few hours and came out, the temperature was good enough and felt finally can stay there for 2 days. We went to Express Avenue Mall (EA), this was a huge mall but not much different from malls at Bangalore. The good about traveling in the city and around was, the auto rates were cheaper than Bangalore. At the Mall we had our lunch, as usual Biryani. Due to upcoming Republic Day there were many Sale offers  going around, but  didn’t want to increase the number of my luggage, so didn’t do any shopping. After lunch we headed back to the hotel and rested for a while to energize for the evening at the beach.

We left the hotel at 4.30 pm and took an auto to go Besant Nagar Beach, which is approx. 10 km from the hotel. The auto took Rs 140, that was after some bargaining only.  We reached the beach at around 5 pm, then, there weren’t lot of people around but as the sun was hiding and moon shining brightly we could see many people coming towards the beach. We could see how children’s were enjoying playing in the water and sand as well. At the beach we even saw a dead tortoise and a dead fish lying at the shore and some crows eating them. We sat at the shore just enjoying the waves and how the sound of wave could soothe anyone around. It was an awesome evening and  the people enjoying around.

If you take left while coming out from the beach, one can see the Murugan Idli Shop, we went and tasted some Idli and Dosa which were served with 4 varieties of chutney.  It was already getting darker and chiller we took an auto and left for hotel to end the day with the moon shining as brightly as it could.

Next day we didn’t know where to go so went to a friend’s place, we stayed there whole day just lying lazily. Evening we went to a mall nearby had some food and came walking back to home. As we didn’t know the ways well so we checked in Google maps to reach the house. On the way did some shopping as well. Since our bus was at 10.30 pm, we left home at 9 pm, there was a railway station near the house thought to go by train. We took the ticket from Nungambakkam to Chennai Park . Then asked people about the train towards the Central Park and jumped in the crowded train compartment. The train was so crowded that in one of the station someone flicked my husband’s mobile, we realized that only when we crossed Egmore Station. After we reached the Chennai Park Station we told one police about it, he asked us to go  to Egmore station. So again we took the train and went back to Egmore Station  but the police weren’t so helpful. They wanted us to get the bill of mobile and come back to make the complaint. Then we mentioned them that we were from Bangalore and the bill is also at home. Then they finally made a note of lost mobile and our address along with name and contact number. We have asked our friend to give them the print of the bill which we later forwarded them after coming back to Bangalore. We also registered complaint on Chennai Police’s website.

We took auto this time as we didn’t have much time to wait for train and reach Chennai Park station, so from Egmore, auto took Rs 50 to drop us opposite of Central Railway Station where all the buses which goes out of city would be waiting for their passengers. We took the bus reached Bangalore early morning but again this trip of Chennai was not so full of good memory.
