26/11 will be remembered long as a black day for the Indians. It another way also made crores of Indians stand in resolve to fight terror tooth and nail.
While the sacrifice of those in olive uniforms was unparalleled, even common Mumbaikars like hawkers and vendors in the streets of Mumbai stood in defiance of the terror.
It was a usual Wednesday that began with a bright sunny morning but nevertheless, Mumbai never knew that the residents would find themselves in the trauma of black clouds at the end of the day.
The nation was traumatized by the gory terror attack in which 166 innocent people lost their lives leaving hundreds injured.
The jihadist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, from Pakistan, stood as the mastermind. In doctrine, few chose Pakistani youths and motivated them to spill Indian blood.
One of the 10 terrorists, Ajmal Amir Kasab, was also caught alive and was hanged in 2012.
The nine terrorists who were killed in the operations were just below 30 – Ismail Khan (25 yr old), Babar Imran (25 yr old), Naser (23 yr old), Shoaib (21 yr old), Nazir (28 yr old), Hafiz Arshad( 23 yr old), Javed (22 yr old), Abdur Rehman (21 yr old), Fahadulla (22 yr old).
Meanwhile, Kasab was given a time of four years to breathe the air which led to resentment among a lot of the Indians. The then-democratic government still thought that his life was precious to be preserved for that long.
In an interrogation of Kasab, he revealed the factors that how the hate is inculcated by re-educating them under these terrorist organizations.
The former police commissioner of Mumbai Rakesh Maria in his book ‘Let Me Say It Now‘ mentions that the early morning of 28/11 when Kasab heard the Azan, he was taken aback.
‘Muslims are not allowed to offer Namaz in India’
Lashkar-e-Taiba had told Kasab that Muslims were not allowed to offer Namaz in India.
When Kasab was asked the reason, he said, “I was told in Pakistan that Muslims in India are neither allowed to offer Namaz nor sounds of Azaan are heard there.’ But he said it was just the opposite of that. He understood how he had been brainwashed”.

Rakesh Maria has also mentioned that Kasab was given a week’s leave and Rs 1.25 lakh before being sent on the Mumbai attack mission.

Terrorist Kasab requested the officers to kill him in the lockup asserting that he does not want to live anymore. According to Inspector Ninad Sawant, who was involved in the investigation of the 26/11 case told that, “During interrogation in the Crime Branch lockup, Kasab had asked him to kill him in the lockup”.
He didn’t want to be alive because we showed him dead photographs of all the terrorists killed at the Taj, Nariman House, CST and every point where they attacked. He was shocked to see these photos and said, “they are dead, then why am I alive?
In the entire investigation, Ninad Sawant and Dinesh Kadam played a crucial role in interrogating Kasab. They also played a crucial role in verifying minute aspects of the case which came out during the interrogation of the accused.
