Historic Indian Coffee House in Kolkata Reopens

One of the historic food outlets in Kolkata, The Indian Coffee House resumed its operations on Thursday. Situated at College Street opposite the Presidency University, the coffee house had been closed since March just a few days before the nationwide lockdown was announced. The Coffee House authorities decided to shut it down in view of the Covid-19.

As per reports, the premises of the coffee house had been sanitized a day before the reopening. The sanitization process was carried out by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation personnel.

Temperature scanning will be done at the entrance. Arrangements for santitization is also available. Some changes have been made in the seating arrangements to ensure social distancing. The entry to the balcony area has been restricted. More than 100 customers will not be allowed at a time.

The Indian Coffee House has been popular hang out place for students, intellectuals, poets as well as writers. Stayajit Ray, Amartya Sen and Aparna Sen were among the regular visitors.

Opening of business places come after the Government of India decided to open up even more under the Unlock 2. This phased reopening comes in July after Unlock 1 in June.
