Opportunities for Engineering Interns include:
- Building large scale distributed file systems and other infrastructures to reliably and efficiently manage and process hundreds of terabytes of information
- Designing and improving software that can crawl and index billions of web pages and other documents
- Using machine-learning techniques to study relationships and associations within existing data (e.g., spelling correction)
- Using Google’s data to keep track of important new info and automatically extract summaries for people who need it (e.g., the automatically generated news summary on news.google.com)
- Internal tool development, innovate alternate ways of automating the test efforts

Google Internships are full-time positions. Start and end dates are flexible with regard to academic schedules, but you'll be expected to commit to at least three months of full-time work. We offer internship opportunities in both our Bangalore and Hyderabad offices from May-August.
Requirements:
- BTech/MTech/PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
- Extensive experience in systems software or algorithms.
- Excellent implementation skills (C++, Python).
- Knowledge of UNIX/Linux or Windows environments and APIs.
- Familiarity with TCP/IP and network programming a plus.

Why did you decide to intern at Google?
Apart from the well established search engine, Google has continuously been introducing new interesting applications. Google, through its technological innovations, has created an image of being of creative and energetic enterprise and this appealed to me. The Bangalore centre too, has actively been involved with many of these products, which I use so often.
Why do you like working at Google?
For me, the people I work with constitutes a very important factor and I found Googlers at Bangalore both inspiring and fun. The place is buzzing with technological ideas and there are always people who know more than you, be it C++, Java or Cryptic crosswords. Another thing I like is the freedom given employees to pursue their own ideas via 20 percent time and other such means.
What is your favorite perk/benefit about working at Google?
Being an avid sports person I spent a lot of my free time improving my Table Tennis skills. Such recreational facilities also provided opportunities to meet other Googlers and learn about their work. Then there is also a massage chair in case you need some relief from a tired back after an overdose of work, or play. Of course the food and t-shirts are great as well!
What’s been the biggest surprise about working at Google?
As I discovered on the very first day, you might find yourself conversing with the Bangalore centre’s head at the cafeteria and playing pool with him in the evening. I was most surprised by this open culture and the non existence of hierarchies. As an intern I sat next to an ex NASA scientist and could discuss my project with him.
