Abstract
A flexible pipe clamp e.g. a means of supporting a pipe which allows it to move when disturbed by internal or external forces consists of a main flexible body (1) surrounding the pipe to be supported (4). A combined reinforcing strip and attachment point (2) help to control stiffness, support pipe and to provide secure attachment to surrounding structures. A split (3) in the main body (1) of the clamp. When pulled apart allows the pipe (4) to be located in the centre of the pipe clamp body. The split is closed and the pipe secured by means of a clamping bolt or other suitable fixing. Changes in the performance as an effective anti-vibration or shock mount can be achieved by varying the main body shape, material type or size and stiffness of the combined reinforcing strip and attachment point.
Description
FLEXIBLE PIFE CLAMP,
According to the present invention, there is provided a Flexible Pipe Clamp, the body of the Clamp being made from any suitable flexible material such as rubber, a suitable type pf pαlyurethane or thermoplastic. Embedded in the elastomer is a combined reinforcing strip and attachment paint by which the flexible housing is supported and attached to the surrounding structure. The Clamp's main body has a split, which due to the flexible nature of it's construction can be opened to allow the Pipe to be positioned into it's centre. A bolt is used to clamp this Pipe in place. Anti-vibration and shock characteristics are provided by a combination of the shape of the cross section of the Clamp's main body, the extent of the reinforcing strip and the flexible nature of the main body of the Clamp which can be varied by alterations in the hardness of the material used in it's construction.
A specific embodiment of the Invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying Drawings in which:-
Figure 1 Shows a side elevation with Pipe in place, Clamp closed and area around the attachment and reinforcing strip cut away along axis A-A1 as shown on Figure 2.
Figure 2 Shows a plan view.
Figure 3 Shows a typical section through the main body along axis B- B1 as shown in Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing the Flexible Pipe Clamp comprises :- a main body, 1, constructed of a suitable flexible material incorporating a combined reinforcing strip and attachment paint, 2. A split, 3, in the main body of the Clamp when pulled apart allows the Pipe, 4, to be located in the centre of the Clamp and secured by a clamping bait, 5. The method of attaching the main body of the Clamp to it's supporting structure can be varied, whereby the attachment point, 6, can be in the form of any suitable solid rod, threaded stud αr female socket. The cross-section of the main body, as shown in Figure 3, can be varied to change the stiffness of the main body of the Clamp.
Claims
1. A flexible Pipe Clamp or Support comprising a flexible body made from any suitable material such as rubber or polyurethane, surrounding the pipe to be supported. Embedded in the flexible body is a combined reinforcing strip and attachment point. A split in the body of the clamp allows a pipe to be inserted into the centre of the clamp. The split is closed and secured with any suitable fixing, e.g. a nut and bolt.
2. A flexible Pipe Clamp or Support as claimed in claim .1. wherein the flexible part of the body in contact with the pipe is of a single or multiple vee section shape.
3. A flexible Pipe Clamp or Support as claimed in claim .1. wherein the flexible part of the body in contact with the pipe is of a rounded section.
4. A flexible Pipe Clamp or Support as claimed in claim .1. wherein the flexible part of the body in contact with the pipe is of a raised flat section.
5. A flexible Pipe Clamp or Support as claimed in claim .1. wherein the flexible part of the body in contact with the pipe is of any combination of shapes as claimed, in claims 2, 3, or 4 above.
6. A flexible Pipe Clamp or Support as claimed in claim .1. wherein the flexible part of the body in contact with the pipe has sections removed thereby effectively changing the area and shape of the contact surface.
7. A flexible Pipe Clamp or Support as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the embedded combined reinforcing and attachment point is varied in shape or stiffness.
8. A flexible Pipe Clamp or Support as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the attachment paint consists of a rod, threaded stud or female socket with or without threads. Alternatively an extended attachment point could be of any convenient shape to facilitate attachment to a structure.
9. A flexible Pipe Clamp or Support substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1 and 2 of accompaning drawings.
