My invention relates to improvements in tools or equipment used in dismantling or wrecking buildings and other structures of wood construction, and particularly to what is known as the wrecking bar.

' It is a well known fact that the customary wrecking bar is provided with a curved end forming a hook with a claw formed upon its end for drawing nails from wood and the 10 like, and the opposite end thereof being deii flected, and tapering for prizing purposes,

which is adequate of course for the purpose. However in connection with this work a substantially constructed hammer isan urgent requirement, and in order to fully meet this requirement I have devised and provided a hammer-head of ample weight andproportion that may be quickly and easily attached to the wrecking bar by sliding the same over the bar in a telescopic manner and which is firmly secured thereto by a specially designed key. The head may be shifted to any desired position upon the bar and securely locked by the said key. In this manner the bar is instantly converted into a substantial hammer for the purpose of driving nails and the like home when they are found to be headless, or otherwise in such condition that they may not be drawn out by ,the claw end of the said 80 bar.

The principal advantage of my invention is to facilitate this work in effecting a great saving of time by supplying a suitable hammer with the bar, that is available at any time. Due to the extremely simple construction of my invention the cost of manufacture thereof would be so low that it may be placed upon the market at a selling price that would inevitably create a reat demand, which is of course a decided a5 cial viewpoint. The invention possesses further advantages all of which will be brought out during the course of the detailed description presently following, illustrated within the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

With reference to the drawings: Figure 1 is a full size fragmentary view of vantage from a commerthe customary wrecking bar with my invention connected thereto in normal position for use. I

My invention consists of a major body ortion designated by the numeral 1 and which is provided with an opening therethrough, the lower portion 2 of the said opening being to octagonall formed so as to conform to the similarly ormed bod portion of bar A, and the upper portion 3 o the said opening being formed of an inner tapering shape to conform to the similarly tapered key 4, in order 7 to admit of the said key to drive andwedge the head substantially to the said bar, as clearly indicated in Figure 1.

The hammer-head is also provided with a lower portion as at 5, and this portion having its lowermost exterior surface checkered as at 6, and the purpose of this checkering being understood without further explanation, also it will be seen that neck 7 forms a part of the head as indicated. With parso ticular reference to Figures 2 and 4, it will be seen that shoulder 8 is provided within the aforesaid opening in body portion 1 in order that when the invention is assembled as in Figure 1, the pressure of key 4 will have direct bearing upon the bar and body 1 leaving a clearance between the said key and bar, as clearly shown in Figure 2 at the numeral 8.

While I have herein illustrated one precise embodiment of my invention, the same is nevertheless susceptible to certain minor changes in the construction or design there of. However in the necessity of any chan es of this character during any probable furt er, development of the invention for the market, the general principle as disclosed and the primary intention of the invention would not become altered or affected vas result of any changes made.

Having thus fully described my invention,

what is desired to be protected by Letters Patent is: a I t 1. In combination with a wrecking bar, means for converting the said'bar into a hammer, the said means comprising a hammer head formed so as to admit of the same being telescopically engaged with the said bar, and securely wedged thereupon, when slidably moved to any desired position upon the bar.

2. A hammer-head attachment fora wrecking bar, the said attachment having a major body portion, an opening extending entirely through the said body portion, the lowermost part of the said opening being octagonally shaped so as to conform to the body of the said bar, and to engage the same in a telescopic manner; a tapering key of octagonal formation for the device, the uppermost part of the aforesaid opening being shaped of a tapering formation to conform to the said key, in order that when the aforesaid bod portion of the attachment is slidably engaged with the aforesaid bar the said key will be interposed between the said bar and the said body portion, and drawing all of the aforesaid elements in a fixed wedge manner relative to each other.

3. In combination with a hammer-head attachment for\ an octagonally formed wrecking bar, a key having its innermost surface .octagonally shaped to conform to the said bar, and the outermost surface of the said key being octagonally formed, and tapering continuously from one of its ends to the opposite end thereof, for the purpose of locking the aforesaid attachment to the said bar in a removable manner.
