' UNITED STATES PATENT O FICE.
WILLIAM A. TISOHENDORF, OF LEAVENWORTH, KANSAS.
IMPROVEMENT m VALVES FOR BRASS MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,372, dated June 27, 1876 application filed May 9, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. TISCHEN- DORF, of the city and county of Leavenworth, Kansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Musical Instruments, of which the following is a specification My invention relates to the cylinder-valves of wind-instruments to open and close the airpassages; and it consists of said cylinders, pivoted on center-points' adapted to be adjusted from time to time to take up the slack, and being adjusted to spring-pressure, the ob-. jeot being to prevent the wear of the cylinders against the sides of the case, as they now do as soon as the journals wear a little.
Figure l is a side elevation of part of a windinstrument having cylinder-Valves, which are the subject of my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation on line or m, Fig. 3; and Fig.3 is a horizontal section of Fig. 2, on line 1 y.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the cylinder-valves, which are commonly arranged on journals B, for which there is no adjustment when they wear, in
on the sides calculated to injure the efficacy of the cylinders for stopping the air.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The cylinder-valves A of wind-instruments, fitted on centers D E, which are adjustable, and regulated by spring-pressure, substantially as specified.
WILLIAM ADAM TISGHENDORF.
