Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a process for the production of wood materials from lignocellulose-containing particles such as chips and fibers and organic binders.
Wood materials made of fibers, chips or strands can be produced particularly efficiently using organic binders. The heat transfer from the hot press plates into the fleece takes place through heat conduction and flow. High densities result in high flow resistance, low humidities are unfavorable for heat conduction. The mechanical requirements for wood-based materials, however, require board densities, where the high flow resistance already has a noticeable effect on the pressing time. It is not expedient to compensate for this negative influence of the density by a higher particle moisture of the entire chip mass. The heating time can be shortened, but the total pressing time is not reduced because the steam has to escape through the narrow surfaces of the plate.
To improve the warming conditions, several methods have been proposed and put into practice. DE F1658 XII / 381 proposes to vary the moisture of the individual layers of a plate. Warming is favored if the outer layers are significantly wetter than the middle layer. However, the particle moisture must be set so that the amount of steam flowing into the middle layer causes faster heating without simultaneously generating an internal pressure that destroys the glue joints between the middle layer particles when the press is opened. (Burst). The steam energy that can be used for heating is therefore limited.
Bismark, Holzforschung und Holzverwertung 1967, S. 53-59).The physical background of the steam boost process developed by Klauditz is targeted heating using steam that flows from the moist outer layers into the middle layer. The top layers of a particle board fleece are sprayed with water. Spraying water on the outer layers (moistening) is better in terms of warmth than using chips with higher moisture. The evaporation of water, which is integrated as moisture in the wood structure, requires more energy than water accumulated on the chip surfaces (Kollmann, HRW 1957, pp. 35-44; Keylwerth, Holzforschung und Holzverwertung 1959, pp. 51-57; Stegmann, v.
The time taken for the fleece to heat up to boiling temperature depends on the heating plate temperature and the amount of water sprayed on each surface m w . From a certain amount of water onwards, several studies show a decreasing relationship between the amount of water applied and the warming-up time. In practice, therefore, water quantities of more than 200 g / m 2 are not expedient in the case of chipboard with a thickness of 20 mm. In addition, large amounts of water sprayed on reduce the resistance to bending and lifting. High heating plate temperatures promote rapid evaporation of the sprayed water. The warm-up time is getting shorter.
Another method for shortening the pressing time is described by Pungs and Lamberts (HRW 1954, pp. 20-25). In this process, the heating of the chipboard fleece by means of heating plates was replaced by high-frequency heating. This method is advantageous because the heating takes place uniformly over the entire plate thickness. The high demand for electrical energy is disadvantageous. Preheating the fleece by means of high frequency was also not successful, although with a chipboard (thickness 20 mm) preheating from 20 C to 60 C can reduce the pressing time from 160 s to 90 s. In addition to the relatively high expenditure of energy, the shielding which is difficult to implement in the particle board system and the absence of metal from adjacent system parts is particularly disadvantageous.
The heating of the fleece by means of steam is described in US Pat. No. 4,517,147. In this system, the press plates are provided with holes through which steam is blown into the fleece over the plate surface when the press is closed. The heat of condensation released quickly heats the fleece. The high level of mechanical effort is currently justified only in the production of thick boards and insulating fleeces, which have poor heat conduction due to their low density.
The previously known methods for faster heating of a nonwoven made of chip or fibrous particles always require special complex devices when a pressing time is sought which is shorter than in the steam blasting method according to Klauditz.
The object of the present invention is to provide a method with which pressing times can be achieved in a conventional heating press which are significantly shorter than in the steam boost method.
This object is achieved by the characterizing features of
Decisive for the rapid warming up is the vapor pressure and temperature difference between the cover layers and the middle layer and a relatively low flow resistance in the middle layer of the plate. After the fleece has been compacted in the hot press below the target plate thickness (pressing phase t O ), the water in the top layer, favored by good heat transfer due to the high density, is quickly transferred to the vapor phase. When the distance between the press plates is increased to the plate thickness (press phase t H ), the flow resistance is significantly reduced and the steam stored in the cover layers flows into the middle layer. Surprisingly, it has been found in the method according to the invention that over-compaction of the nonwoven in the hot press has no or only an insignificant effect on the mechanical properties of the plate. With a hitherto unknown "secondary steam boost effect" a very rapid heating of the fleece is initiated. With a precise coordination of the influencing parameters of pressing temperature, chip moisture, over-compression time, particle dimensions and closing or opening speed, heating rates of more than 10 ° C / s can be achieved. Additional facilities such as heating devices and steam generators are not required. Moist surface layer particles instead of water spraying are particularly advantageous in the production of MDF, as this prevents staining.
In the production of thick plates, a further overcompression phase follows after increasing the distance between the press plates and the target thickness. It has been shown that a high temperature and pressure difference between the outer plate area and the middle layer again arises with a renewed over-compression. This can also be used to heat the middle layer quickly if the amount of steam in the first phase is not sufficient to heat it to boiling temperature. A pulsating opening and closing of the press until the temperature in the middle layer is 100 ° C is also possible.
If nonwovens are pressed into plates that show a high springback behavior, the press can be opened briefly after the over-compression than it corresponds to the plate thickness (press plate spacing> target plate thickness). The flow resistance is then even lower, the heating of thick plates in particular is favored.
Solche Bindemittel enthalten z.B. Stärke oder Proteine. All conventional condensation glues and isocyanate can be used as binders. A particular advantage of this process is that such binders are used economically be able to swell before the actual hardening. Such binders contain, for example, starch or proteins.
