GoogleGoogle India Women in Engineering Award

The Google India Women in Engineering Awards were instituted in 2008 to recognize and reward deserving women students in Computer Science and related majors, and inspire them to become active participants and leaders in creating technology. We had 9 award recipients in 2009 and 16 in 2008. Please read more about them below:

Amisha Khera

Amisha Khera - Jaypee Institute of Information Technology – B.Tech – Will graduate in 2010

"Computer science has given me an opportunity to conceive, believe and achieve my ideas, by opening the door to an astounding world of innovations. Technology may have limitations on what it can accomplish but on the contrary, we as budding engineers do not."

Aiswarya Cyriac

Aiswarya Cyriac – Indian Institute of Mathematical Sciences – Integrated Ph.D – Will graduate in 2013

"Research in computer science gives the opportunity to learn the underlying theory behind a lot of technologies – existing and yet to exist – which help millions of people over generations. The best reward is the satisfaction you get when you contribute your bit to extend its frontiers."

Anjali Sardana

Anjali Sardana – Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee – Ph.D – Will graduate in 2009

"Engineering has taught me how to learn. It is an exciting field where ideas can materialize … bringing a radical change in the lives of millions of people. It strives not only to find solutions, but also to identify problems and then solve them to perfection."

Gauri Hiren Joshi

Gauri Hiren Joshi – Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology – Ph.D – Will graduate in 2009

"In my view, no branch of engineering and technology is self sufficient to carry out research without the aid of Computer Science. Computing technology has become an integral part of all technical fields. It gives one the strength to realize how things will be carried out under different circumstances and corrective measures can be taken at the time of implementation itself."

Kurchi Subhra Hazra

Kurchi Subhra Hazra – National Institute of Technology, Durgapur – B.Tech – Will graduate in 2009

"Computer Science embraces technologies that evolve everyday and affect human life in every corner of the world. This is what fascinates me about this field, to which I aspire to contribute creatively."

Sahiti Polishetty

Sahiti Polishetty – IIIT Hyderabad – B.Tech – Graduating in 2009

"Science can amuse and fascinate us all, but it is engineering that changes the world. The top benefit of information technology is that it empowers people to do what they want to do. It lets people be creative. It lets people be productive. It lets people learn things they didn't think they could learn before, and so, in a sense, it is all about potential."

Sameena Shah

Sameena Shah – Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi – Ph.D – Will graduate in 2009

"I love research in Computer Science because it satiates my inherent desire to understand the logic behind things. Things which are seemingly random may have an underlying structure. The joy for me lies in discovering patterns, creating algorithms, proposing a theory and making my own little contribution to the world."

Sarika Mohapatra

Sarika Mohapatra – Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur – B.Tech in Computer Science – Will graduate in 2010

"When you see intelligent computers ‘think’ and ‘decide’; when you experience virtual reality; and when you sit on the mammoth web that connects you to the entire world, you have to agree that Computer Science is like modern alchemy."

Supriya Vadlamani

Supriya Vadlamani – BITS, Pilani – M.E – Graduated in Nov, 2008

In 2008, Supriya received the best paper award at the International Conference of Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics and was also awarded a Microsoft Scholarship to attend the Grace Hopper Conference. She has 5 publications to her name and is currently pursuing higher studies at Cornell University.
