1. What is Diversity at Google?

As part of Google's ongoing commitment to encouraging women to excel in computing and technology, we are pleased to present the fifth edition of the Google India Women in Engineering Award (now Google India Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship) to recognize and reward deserving women students in Computer Science and related majors, and inspire them to become active participants and leaders in creating technology.

2. What does the application include and how will it be evaluated?

The application form has the following sections: contact information, educational background, achievements, project work and two essays. If short-listed our team will request you to submit two reference letters. Women engineering students will be awarded based on excellence in academia, passion for technology, demonstrated leadership and originality of thought.

3. How many applications can I submit?

Only one application per candidate is permitted.

4. When is the last date to apply for this scholarship?

31st December 2011.

5. When will the scholarship be announced?

March 2012 (tentative).

6. What is the scholarship amount?

The winners will be granted a scholarship of INR 1,00,000 via cheque. This amount is subject to Income Tax as per the Income Tax rules.

7. How many women engineers will be rewarded?

We would prefer not to limit the scholarship numbers. A group of female undergraduate, graduate and PhD student finalists will be chosen from the applicant pool.

8. I am a professor at a college and am currently pursuing my PhD. Can I apply for this scholarship?

Yes, you can apply for this scholarship.

9. I’m not a Computer Science engineering student. Can I apply?

We are accepting applications only from students pursuing Computer Science and related courses. This would include Information Technology, Information Systems and those pursuing an MCA degree.

10. If I have a friend in another college and she is not aware of this scholarship, how can I get her to apply?

You are welcome to inform your friend about this scholarship. Please share the website link. We continually want to grow this great program and support more colleges around India.

11. I am a B. Tech student; as this scholarship is open to students pursuing master’s and Ph. D programs as well, will my application be compared to theirs?

We are very conscious that the exposure and knowledge levels of students from B.Tech, Master’s and Ph.D programs are likely to differ depending on the program they are pursuing. To be fair to all applicants, applications will be evaluated among peer groups.

12. I had applied to/ was a finalist in the 2009/ 2010/ 2011 Google India Women in Engineering Award. Am I eligible to apply for the 2012 scholarship?

Yes, all applicants/ finalists of the 2009/2010/2011 Google India Women in Engineering Award are eligible for the 2012 scholarship. However, if you were a winner please refer to the next question.

13. I was an award recipient in the 2009/ 2010/ 2011 edition of the Google India Women in Engineering Award. Am I eligible to apply for the 2012 scholarship?

If you have been a winner earlier, please apply for it after a gap of one year. We believe that it will take an applicant at least one year to add any significant accomplishments/ project work to their application. For instance, if you were a winner of the 2011 award we would encourage you to apply for the 2013 scholarship (for which the applications will be open from November 2012)
